 The Chicago Blackhawks Retail Buyer is responsible for optimizing retail sales and profitability by working across national and local licensed vendors to optimize assortment and buy plans, build new partnerships, and engage the next generation of fans through retail. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing the buying strategy across the Blackhawks retail businesses at the United Center, Michigan Avenue, and in Rockford. They will be tasked with developing strategies to reach new fans via unique new products and exciting brand partnerships.  They will support the retail operations team, manage inventory levels, and recommend distros and transfers to maximize sales.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Maximize sales & margin performance via product assortment and channel distribution
  • Monitor inventory positions to ensure strong sell-through
  • Develop impactful brand partnerships and collaborations
  • Build retail procurement and open-to-buy assortment processes alongside Retail Director
  • Forecast product mix and execute buys throughout buy cycle
  • Input POs and maintain tracking software
  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships
  • Inform marketing and promotional calendars
  • Create and maintain retail calendar and seasonal assortment book
  • Request and track retail marketing needs including signage, artwork, influencer, etc.
  • Partner with social media & influencer teams to develop seasonal and product strategies and execute brand, event, and product messaging
  • Identify new opportunities to improve financial performance
  • Maintain data cleanliness within POS to ensure accurate inventory measures
  • Use data-driven approaches to make decisions across retail business
  • Track sports marketing and consumer trends within North America and the NHL
  • Collaborate across departments to identify and coordinate retail initiatives that align with and expand upon business-wide objectives


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or comparable professional experience
  • 5+ years of experience in merchandising, retail buying, merchandising support/analytics (e.g., operations, pricing), product development, or similar field
  • Ability to manage priorities and coordinate tasks to solve day-to-day challenges in a dynamic environment
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong merchandising, product, and business acumen
  • Demonstrated ability to complete quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Ability to exhibit a creative and analytical approach to fulfilling business objectives
  • Experience in sports or sportswear apparel segments preferred, but not required
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to influence areas outside of direct control
