SIG Speaks to Canda Rozier, Procurement Evangelist

Canda Rozier is the Owner/President at Collabra Consulting

What is your role and your day-to-day responsibilities?

I have been CPO at several global companies, where I had responsibility for all procurement, sourcing, P2P automation, as well as global real estate and facilities. I’m currently the President of Collabra Consulting, providing support to clients for procurement, sourcing, cost reduction initiatives, vendor risk management, advisory projects and interim leadership.

What is something that you wish more people knew about sourcing and procurement?

It’s exciting! Sourcing and procurement are mission-critical business activities and done well, they can provide significant bottom-line impact, strategic support, and risk and governance controls to a company.

In your opinion, what are 3 skills that sourcing and procurement professionals of tomorrow must have?

  1. Communication – It’s increasingly critical for procurement professionals to have exceptional communications skills. Soft skills like persuasion, “selling” to internal stakeholders, negotiations and the ability to interact globally will define success for procurement leaders of tomorrow.
  2. Collaboration – The days of “my way or the highway” are gone. Procurement professionals must be able to collaborate and achieve cooperation with suppliers, and perhaps more importantly, with internal business stakeholders.
  3. Embrace change – The current COVID-19 crisis has highlighted that the world, and business, can change at any time and often completely outside our control. Successful procurement leaders of tomorrow have to embrace change, whether from outside factors or from the digital disruption that is rewriting the fabric of business.

What does the future of sourcing and procurement look like to you?

I think the future will be underscored by the dynamics that drive the necessity for the three skills mentioned above. Procurement and sourcing will be a more holistic function, not transactional;  intelligent automation will reshape procurement’s focus to more complex and variable business processes; risk management and governance will become increasingly critical and will be a part of sourcing and procurement functions; and creating and sustaining value – not just savings – will be the measure of procurement and sourcing success.
