SIG Speaks to Debbie Manos-McHenry, Chief Sourcing Officer, Huntington National Bank

An image of gold stars on a grey surface.

When she’s not challenging the status quo and meeting her budget targets at the bank, Debbie helps to make her community a better place as the leader of the Huntington Women's Network Business Resource Group and as a volunteer with various Columbus charity organizations. A big believer in the power of personal connections, Debbie talks about her role at the bank, the importance of utilizing technology and her tips for building professional relationships that can pay off down the line. Debbie is well-known in the SIG community as a member of the SIG Thought Leadership Council, the SIG University Advisory Board and she leads the Steering Committee of the Risk Management Association’s Third Party Management Round Table.

Your keynote presentation at the Columbus CPO Meet and Eat was about tail spend management--why is this such a hot topic?

Huntington’s sourcing team, like many other companies, is lean. Identifying ways to direct low-dollar, high-transaction volume spend to a consistent, repeatable process through catalogs, spot-buys amongst preferred providers or non-catalog PO’s helps focus the team on more strategic projects while maintaining cost discipline in the tail.

Reflections on the SIG Fall Global Executive Summit

I’m proud to say the feedback from delegates on the Fall Global Executive Summit is some of the best I’ve received for any Summit yet. The beautiful Omni Rancho Las Palmas Resort & Spa was the perfect destination to engage with our cutting-edge keynote panelists, along with hands-on learning in how-to labs, breakout sessions and outdoor networking with a breathtaking view of the mountains. But what excited me the most at this Summit was the inaugural Future of Sourcing Awards, where we recognized individuals and teams who are making a transformative impact on the industry.

Future of Sourcing Awards

The energy at the Future of Sourcing Awards was electric! It was inspiring to be in the presence of both the titans who have helped shape the industry, the leaders who are taking sourcing and procurement to the next level, along with the up-and-coming talent that is our future.

It was my extreme pleasure to present SIG’s original founder, Barry Wiegler, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Barry gave a moving speech and was even surprised by his daughter and grandson who flew in for the special occasion. There was barely a dry eye in the room.

Throughout the night, we presented awards in eight team categories, two individual categories and honored our first inductees into the SIG Supernova Hall of Fame. Visit the Future of Sourcing Awards website for the full list of Award winners.

This is the Future of Sourcing

Futuristic Image

New technology, competitive drive and the desire to upend the status quo to influence innovation and enhance value are important characteristics for sourcing and procurement professionals in today’s world. As the digital transformation continues to accelerate at an unprecedented and exciting pace, SIG wants to recognize the change makers, movers and shakers who show innovation, leadership and transformation in areas critical to the sourcing industry.

This week, SIG announced the finalists for the inaugural Future of Sourcing Awards taking place at the Fall Global Executive Summit in Rancho Mirage, California, on October 17. A panel of 14 senior executives judged nominees in eight team categories and two individual categories. The teams and individuals listed below demonstrated ingenuity, initiative and innovation and showed the greatest achievements in terms of fundamentally changing the nature of their business and/or industry.

Please join us in congratulating the 2018 Future of Sourcing Awards finalists!

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES

SIG is hosting three exciting events in May on the east and west coasts. Pencil in these professional development and networking events to get up to speed before the third quarter sets in.

Join fellow CPOs in New York City for engaging discussions led by executives from Deutsche Bank and Guggenheim Partners, and a keynote presentation on the Transformation Journey for the Mayor's Office of Contract Services in the City of New York, by Ryan A. Murray, First Deputy Director of the Mayor's Office of Contract Services.

6 Positive Benefits of Winning a Corporate Award

In an increasingly crowded global marketplace, it can be hard to stand out. Back in the day, competition came from companies that looked just like yours. That is no longer the case. With an always-online hyper-connected economy, your competition could come from an industry so far removed from the one that you are in that it hardly makes sense…and yet if you aren’t watching, your business can find itself on the precipice of being made redundant by a company you never saw coming. (Think Uber to cabs or AirBnB to hotels…or even more recently Amazon to grocers.) It is not at all far-fetched…and with artificial intelligence and other forms of digitization, who knows what the future holds?

Frankly, it shouldn’t be surprising that some of the best ideas may come from outside your industry…that’s one of the concepts that SIG holds dear. During a plenary Summit session, we had everyone work with the people at their table to discuss a challenge that one person at the table was facing. Because the tables were random and the people at those tables represented different positions and industries, the results provided some breakthrough moments with complete out-of-the-box thinking.

This Month at SIG – April 2018

Here's what's happening in April at SIG: Future of Sourcing Awards, SIG University Certification, Outsource Magazine Renaming Contest

"April hath put a spirit of youth in everything" -- William Shakespeare

It's the start of another new quarter and many teams are reinvigorating their strategies to make bigger and better gains in Q2. The economy is also making gains – the latest ADP National Employment Report data show that private sector companies added more workers in March than initial forecasts predicted.

At SIG, we’re charging into Q2 with a renewed sense of optimism, excitement and momentum to tackle obstacles and challenges with transformational approaches that we learned at the SIG Global Executive Summit in Washington, D.C. Here's what SIG delegates need to know this month.

FUTURE OF SOURCING AWARDS
