Procurement professionals can have tremendous impact on their organizations as catalysts. They are in the fortunate position of being able to see across the entire company, however all too often do not take full advantage of that opportunity. While technical procurement skills are definitely table stakes, do we place too much importance on them as we build our teams? Does that result in teams skilled at getting the best value for money for the products and services that your stakeholders think they want . . . rather than creativelly using supply markets to solve difficult problems, or to take advantage of revenue opportunities. How can we be catalysts personally and create an environment for our teams to do the same?

Nathan Haydn-Myer is an internationally accomplished business leader with experience in transforming perceptions and performance across various industries and teams. Currently he is the head of brand and analytics for VSP Global’s Corporate Procurement and Travel division where he has been instrumental in renovating the processes and image that help secure Procurement’s seat at the proverbial table. Prior to VSP Global, Nathan managed the Workforce Planning and Analysis team at Blue Shield of California where he facilitated the forecasting, and navigation of the growth and impacts associated with the Affordable Care Act. Prior to that he was the marketing manager for Angelo Investments, an Italian, early-stage capital provider, where he provided end-to-end marketing services for the start-ups associated with the company, including Blackshape Aircraft, which was awarded best ultralight aircraft in the world, in 2013.
Nathan earned his MBA from UC Davis Graduate School of Management where he also obtained a fellowship in their leadership program. He earned his Certified Sourcing Professional certificate through SIG University, holds a certificate in lean six sigma and is fluent in Italian.
